2019 was a flurry of activity at St. Andrews as we said goodbye to the Rev. Douglas Graydon on June 30. We are appreciative of Douglas staying on with us for two years when in fact it was originally meant to be a six-month interim.
On July 1 we welcomed Rev. David Howells. David bikes to St. Andrews every Sunday morning from St. Aidan’s in the Beaches where his wife, Lucy, is the incumbent. David has met many Islanders already through his community ministry and home visits. We welcome his new ideas, organizational skills, and fresh spirit. Gosh. he even does windows!
For the second time in three years we were forced to vacate the church due to flooding and this year it was from May 25 to Aug.4. With that closure came the cancelation of many of our income-producing events - Blessing of Boats & Bicycles, Strawberry Social, weddings, concerts, retreats. Thanks to a parish family who sponsored the “Double your Donation” fundraiser we replaced some of the monies that we were unable to raise through these events. Unfortunately, it is not enough to maintain and improve the church building and grounds, pay the ever-growing operational expenses, and continue our community outreach programs.
One such program is the availability of our van that helps many Islanders with mobility issues maintain their independence and remain living in their own homes. We pray for a newer, more efficient van that is more accessible and less dependent on fuel (hybrid!!). We are looking to raise $18,500 to help this come true!! We are grateful for your support and ask that you contribute towards our ongoing work.
Wishing you and your families all the joy of the Holiday Season,
Your leadership team – David, Bella, Jane, Julia and Nancy
