2018 is drawing to a close and we wish to express our appreciation for the memorable times we have spent together. Just when we thought we had said good-bye to the Shaw House as ‘our home away from home’ during the flood in 2017, we found ourselves back there again in January 2018 when the furnace failed at the church. Our thanks to the Shaw House Board for hosting us in our times of need!
In June we were happy to give The Reverend Canon Douglas Graydon, our interim priest-in-charge, his first experience of Blessing the Fleet and Bicycles followed by our annual Strawberry Social. The day was one of our most successful ever. Thank you for your participation and contributions.
This summer Bishop Robertson made his second annual visit to the parish at which time we had a discussion about beginning the process of selecting a new incumbent. We are moving ahead on that front albeit slowly! We also had a thoughtful and happy service with the Quaker Society followed by a picnic. The Blessing of Pets service was held at the church in mid-October. On November 11 our Remembrance Day evensong service joined congregations from across Canada in the Bells of Peace celebration – the church was full! Our bell rang out its joy 100 times with many congregants taking their turns at tolling! Again thank you for your participation.
With this letter we are seeking donations for the Heritage Fund to maintain and improve the church building and grounds and pay the ever-growing operational expenses. Insurance for the church and van costs $4300 annually. The new furnace cost $5000! Our communities on the island and mainland have been most generous and St. Andrew is appreciative. We are grateful for your support and ask that you contribute towards our ongoing work.
We wish you and your families all the joy of the Holiday Season.
The Rev Canon Douglas Graydon, Elizabeth Amer, Marian Lye, Jane Davidson-Neville, Charlotte Mudge
